About the Site
The Maths & Physics Society website offers weekly problems, Modulo, Physicle, an archive and a Question Editor for the Maynooth University community.
This is the Maths & Physics Society's website for its activities in the Maynooth University community. Society branding is used with permission. University, MSU and MU Life services have their own operators and privacy notices.
The website operator is Maths & Physics Society.
Membership information remains on MU Life.
Educational Content and Accuracy
Questions, hints, solutions and games are for learning, discussion and recreation. They are not official university examinations or formal academic assessment material unless explicitly identified as such.
We aim for accurate mathematical and physical explanations and welcome reports of mistakes or unclear assumptions. Automated answer checks can have limits: compare the reasoning and any stated assumptions if an answer seems unexpected.
For a content error, email [email protected].
Friendly Competition
Society Problems offer one ranked Maths slot and one ranked Physics slot each week. A correct first valid answer earns 3 points without hints, 2 with one hint or 1 with two. A wrong valid answer or revealing the solution earns 0 and ends that ranked attempt. Invalid or unsupported input does not consume it. Difficulty does not multiply points, and speed is never a tiebreaker. Equal points share a rank.
Choose ranked play before opening a new question, or choose practice without scoring. The ranked difficulty is locked for that weekly subject slot. Practising the exact question first makes it ineligible for later ranked points on that account. Server opening and closing times apply, displayed for Ireland; no new points are awarded after closing. Completed results cannot be replaced by replaying or importing progress. Old questions and current Modulo and Physicle editions remain practice activities.
Use one account for ranked participation and solve independently. Do not impersonate others, use abusive usernames or pictures, upload pictures you have no right to use, or manipulate results. The Society can hide or reset usernames, remove inappropriate pictures and exclude disputed or compromised scores with a recorded reason. Profile moderation does not alter points; score reviews retain the original score for review. Contact [email protected] to challenge a decision. Published answer keys are not silently changed; errors require withdrawal and review.
Public visibility is optional. The service cannot prevent answer sharing or every use of multiple accounts. These standings are for friendly participation, not a guarantee of independently verified attainment or a prize competition.
Academic Use
Use the activities in a way that respects your course's assessment and academic-integrity rules. Being able to view a solution here does not mean it may be submitted as your own assessed work.
Saving Your Work
Signed-in progress and game results save to your account online. Use Your Account to check saving, download a copy or manage your data. Wait for a successful save before closing the page if you have work to keep.
Guest play and unsaved editor drafts are temporary. Refreshing or closing the page removes them. Sign in to save play progress between visits. Authorised editors can save private drafts in Cloud Workspace; you can also export an unsaved question library.
The standalone Editor and imported question libraries make questions available in the current page. They do not submit questions to the Society or restore player completion history. Publication uses the separate editorial review process.
See Cookies & Account Storage for remembered sign-in and recovery of earlier browser work.
Content and Attribution
The site combines prepared problem explanations, familiar or classical mathematical ideas, credited material where identified, and open-source software. Mathematical ideas themselves are not claimed as Society property. No blanket claim is made that all material belongs to the Society or Maynooth University.
Third-party material and software retain their applicable rights and licences. When making your own questions, use material you are entitled to use and preserve appropriate credits. Saving a draft does not transfer copyright. Before publication, the Society records the source, permission and required attribution for the submitted material. The local Editor alone does not submit work for publication.
External Links and Availability
External resources, including MU Life, are operated separately and have their own terms and privacy practices. The site's activities and availability may change. The website may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance. Keep your own backups of work you want to retain.
Changes to the Site
The site has no shop, membership payments, paid entry or prizes. Authorised editors can save private drafts through Cloud Workspace. Public publication requires review and approval in Admin by authorised team members. Any new paid service or prize competition would need its own terms before opening.
These terms will be reviewed when relevant features change. Nothing here is intended to remove rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
