About Tier 3 - Dimension

Requires several pieces of reasoning to be organised into a solution.

The tier is a Society guide to the amount of reasoning, technical work and insight a problem is expected to require. Your experience may vary depending on the topic and your background.

A Rock, a Boat, a Lake

Fluids / Buoyancy - 5 min

You are in a floating boat on a lake, with a rock that is denser than the water. You drop the rock overboard and it sinks completely. The boat stays afloat, and no water enters or leaves the lake. Once everything settles, what happens to the lake's water level?

Assumptions

Ignore absorption and changes in density. Compare the settled water levels before and after the rock is moved.
